Real. Local. Reviews.

With Grand Rapids becoming a booming mecca we wanted to help you find not only old time favorites, but new hot spots to enjoy in this "big little city".  We are the only local review "blog" in Michigan supplied by locals named Steve & Jamie. So you know you can trust us...

Using our high tech immersive technology (and taste buds!) we hope to offer a better look at these atmospheres where you will be enjoying local favorite eats, drinks and shows. You like the up and coming West side? Great! We got some tips. Fancy the solid center of GR? Of course we know some good options there! Like to venture to the North, South, or East side? We can help you decide. Enjoy. We'll be with you every step of the way.

City Built

We’d like to give a mighty welcome to one of the newest breweries to hit Grand Rapids. With a unique Puerto Rican flair, we promise this will be one that stands out! Co-owners Ed and Dave were long time neighbors, friends and home brewers who decided they wanted something more. Not to say this dream was easy to obtain, they braved many bumps throughout this process, but in the end they came out victorious and City Built has arrived!

Now onto the salivating part! Their beer selection is not only different, but also wildly delicious. One of their most extraordinary being the PolyHopoury, a Northeast IPA created with 40lbs (that’s equivalent to a 15-foot canoe…. or 4 bowling balls…. or 8 Chihuahuas!) of dry hops to create only 10 barrels! Beer not your thing? They have plenty of other options on tap, including ciders, wines, and meads (and can we just say the words “Beyonce Blackberry Mead”?), and even Brix Soda for non-alcoholic options.

That belly deserves some substance, so fill it with tacos and other delectable Puerto Rican cuisine. And for all you I-can-handle-hot-salsa-ers, we’ll give you the challenge of trying their Hot AF sauce… you be sure to let us know how that goes.

Spoke Folks

Grand Rapids is becoming incredibly bike friendly with the additions of bike lanes and hundreds of miles of trails. Spoke Folks is a local bike co-op that wants to help make the love of biking accessible to everyone. Their goal: "Empower people to ride with pride and confidence." Their MO: lending their tools, space, knowledge and expertise. With so many new restaurants, bars, and shops popping up, what better way to see them all than without having to worry about parking?

Don't have a bike yet? Spoke Folks sells (and will also rent!) refurbished bikes at unbeatable prices. The objective is to make getting on a bike as convenient as possible. And for those who can't get to the shop? Say hello to the mobile repair truck that can come to you or your event! And speaking of events, The Spoke Folks are always hosting some pretty solid events like Bike Camp (a unique 3-day summer event) and the upcoming Funky Buddha Triathlon (yoga, bike, beer- need we say more?) Keep calm and bike on, fellow Grand Rapidians, your friends, The Spoke Folks, have your back every pedal of the way.

One Bourbon

One Bourbon is bringing the Bourbon/Whiskey movement with American regional dining to Beer City.

This restaurant was started by four locals with a passion to serve. Each bringing their own speciality to the table they have formed one harmonious experience. They have a wide variety of drinks (including over 100 types of whisky and bourbon) that pair incredibly well with their unique menu. The atmosphere captivates with a copious amount of natural light from the large windows, unfinished brick and tin ceilings. Head up to the refined and swanky whiskey room on the second floor (also great for private rentals) or, now that the weather is warming, the (soon to come) patio that will be decorated by local artists. We reveled in a refreshing Manhattan and the Georgia Egg Rolls appetizer for starters, with Shrimp n' Grits to follow. But whichever eats you select, you will want to save room for the home made pies. Trust us. That Gluten Free Apple Pie that is worth the trip alone!

Beer city WAS missing the bourbon!
